Family Holiday to Taiwan (10Days 9Nights)

Taiwan is a small country but a variety of landscape it offers is unusual. Common question is if we can cover Taiwan in 5 days. Answer is a clear No. There are enough things to see and experience and this requires more time. I have added a 10day itinerary that I personally followed. We wanted to experience the bullet train and also wanted the comfort of a personal vehicle with driver (travelling with children hence the comfort).

There are some speciality themed restaurants in Taiwan. I have listed some of them that we visited during our stay. I have also recommended some boutique places to stay. Feel free to read the ratings on Tripadvisor and plan accordingly.

Many people have asked me to suggest itineraries and till date, I continue to customise travel details for family and friends. I decided to include a section on suggested itineraries for those who can benefit out of it.


Day 1
Arrival at Kaohsiung Airport (morning). Proceed to Kaohsiung station
Travel to Taipei via HSR bullet train (an experience not to be missed).Takes approx 3hrs. 
Lunch in Taipei after arrival.
Check in to the Hotel in Ximen. Ximen is house to night markets and many shopping / eateries. Location wise, it is close to Ximen Station also.
Visit Taipei 101Dinner at Din Tai Fung (below Taipei 101) - DTF is originated from Taiwan and offers one of the best Taiwanese cuisine. Umpteen vegetarian choices available.


Day 2
After breakfast in the hotel, proceed to the Fisherman's Wharf
Lunch
Visit the Yangmingshan National Park. This place is filled with Cherry Blossoms during the season. If you visit during autumn, you may see foliage.
Beituo Hot Springs
Oia Cafe for dinner (Alcapas Themed Cafe). This cafe is in the outskirts of Yangmingshan. Makes sense to visit the cafe from the National Park.


Day 3
Breakfast in hotel
Yehliu Geopark (Queen's Head) / Taiwan Gold Eco Park / Jiufen / The Shifen Falls / Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival
Ximen Night Market for dinner - Don't forget to try the stinky tofu!


Day 4
Breakfast in hotel
Taipei Zoo / Lunch at the Zoo / Tea Trail Gondola
Visit Model Toilet Restaurant (Ximen) for dinner



Day 5
After breakfast in hotel, check out.
Drive south towards Hualien.
Qingshui Cliff / Taroko National Park
Check in to the Hotel
Qixingtan / Pine Garden
Visit Hualien Night Market for dinner


Day 6
After breakfast in hotel, check out.
Hualien Hohuanshan / Qing Ging Farm / Little Swiss Garden / Old England Hotel
Check into the Hotel
Dinner at resort / hotel


Day 7
After breakfast in hotel, check out.
Sun Moon Lake / Formossan Aboriginal Village
Check to the hotel at Sun Moon Lake
Free and Easy / Dinner


Day 8
Breakfast in hotel followed by Taichung Tour
Rainbow Military Dependent Village / Taichung Garden Center / Lavendar Cottage / Carton King / Gaomei Wetland
Back to hotel in Sun Moon Lake
Night market

Day 9
After breakfast in hotel, check out. Drive south to Kaohsiung.
Mt. Alishan (1/2day) / Historic Suspension bridges / Fenqihu Township
Check in to Kaohsiung Hotel
Visit Night Market for dinner


Day 10
Breakfast in hotel
Anping old Fort / Chillan Tower Fort
Visit shopping malls
Check out and proceed to airport
